I'm afraid to ask in what way is Tony breaking the rules, eventually the conversation will circle around to what he is stirring it with.

Sometimes it's better not to ask wow7-eyes

I use the small dosage cups that come with children's medicines. Surely not the most accurate way of measuring, and have not had problems with zpoxy. I did thin it one time with da, even then I just eyeballed the amount. Wondering if its more of a problem mixing thoroughly or what it's being applied to.

Jack,

How did you make out on this? Did it finally dry?

Hey Joe,

I don't believe it ever dried like it has on previous applications.... When I sanded, it balled-up rather than powder off as it has in the past...and this was after several days of 'drying'.
After reading several responses, I suspect that I either didn't have the stuff properly mixed and/or I added too much denatured alcohol....
Again, many thanks for all the thoughtful suggestions,
jack

Popsicle sticks. I mix with popsicle sticks. I mix it in a cup if adding alcohol, and on a scrap of cardboard if I'm not.
I know you think my pen is the obvious choice, didn't you? Well I don't like ruining pens. [:Y:]

You can get syringes at the drug store. They will give them to you for free. Perhaps they didn't buy the story "I use them to mix epoxy" and thought I was an intravenous drug user... Two 5 ml syringes (without the needle) are perfect for the resin and hardener. I use 2 to 3 mls portions at a time, mixed in the ketchup cups you can get at restaurants. (I pick up a few extra when I'm there...). Popsicle sticks from the hobby store work well to stir. I think if you don't get the mixture right, it might not set well. Although, z-poxy is pretty forgiving...

Those crummy chopsticks they give you with take-out are great for stirring and general poking.
I have my own personal stash of chopsticks made in Japan used only for eating.
Dang, now I'm hungry.

If ur test fails, toss ur DNA and ur zpoxy. Buy new stuff. I've never had this issue. But it sure does ring of bad mix, degraded epoxy (got hot?) and possibly watered down DNA. Good luck! Keep ur zpoxy in a fridge.

I'll bet many of us have beer fridges in the garage. Just put a "do not drink" sign on ur zpoxy bottles. Even Tony would not miss that!

I am with the other Tony .. go figure .. when I was using Zpoxy a couple years back, I mixed by eye the first two coats, and then for the third thinned one that got wiped on super thin, it was more like 50-50 zpoxy to DA to the point of water thin, and it was mixed after the DA was added .. never had an issue.

forget the thinner....use a hair dryer on hot and heat the z poxy , on large surfaces use a spreader and just spread It out roughly, then use 2 foam brushes for each application...with the dryer in one hand and a brush in the other spread it on the entire surface heating the z poxy as you go , work quickly on the body , although you have plenty of time so its important too make sure to mix up enough, the z poxy will go on like paint...as per a recent thread on this method...once completely covered take the 2nd brush and with the hair dryer still in one hand go back over the surfaces , the 2nd foam brush will absorb all of the excess and will result in a thin smooth easy to sand surface....on the neck use use same method , you can actually do a neck without getting a drop on your hands and it will be so smooth you will hate to sand it.....I use three coats, the first gets sanded back down to the wood, the second levels the surface and the 3rd results in a glass smooth surface which can be handled like a clear coat...since I use Em 6000 for the final finish , I use em 1000 for he sealer , once you try this you will hit yourself in the head and wonder why you didn't try is sooner...look up the recent thread on this method....it works!!!!! easy...smooth ...and most important consistent!!!!!!!!
